Borntosend (Pty) Ltd offers all of its customers the option of purchasing insurance. It is however the responsibility of the shipper to select insurance on the waybill, and to clearly indicate the insured value (in ZAR) together with a clear description of the contents of the shipment.
Insurance premiums are calculated at a rate of 3.00% of the declared value of the goods, with a minimum charge of ZAR 25.00 per shipment. No excess will however apply in the event of a successful claim. Borntosend offers insurance up to a maximum of ZAR 750, 000.00 per parcel for both domestic and international shipments. Cover for greater amounts can also easily be arranged by contacting your Customer Service Representative on 086-000-888-0.
Any insurance effected by Borntosend on behalf of its customers shall be subject to such exceptions and conditions as may be imposed by the insurance company or underwriters taking the risk. Borntosend shall not be under any obligation to obtain separate cover for any risks so excluded. Should any insurer dispute its liability, whether in whole or part, under any insurance policy in respect of any goods, the shipper or receiver concerned shall have recourse against such insurer only, and Borntosend shall not have any responsibility or liability whatsoever in relation thereto.
Should insurance cover be selected in respect of items listed as restricted by Borntosend without first obtaining Borntosend’s express written consent to grant the insurance cover prior to shipping, then no insurance cover will be provided and any premiums already levied will be refunded. A list of such Prohibited Items is available on www.borntosend.com, or upon request via your Customer Services Representative on 086-000-888-0.
In the event that a clean Proof of Delivery is obtained from the receiver upon delivery of the goods, this will then be considered as prima facie evidence that the goods were delivered in good order. In the event that the shipment has been damaged or tampered with, and/or there is evidence that some of the contents is missing, the receiver is then required to immediately endorse the waybill in the presence of the carrier representative, or the claim may be rejected.
In the absence of any written instruction to Borntosend to insure the cargo, all shipments will be handled completely at the shipper’s risk, and the shipper hereby indemnifies Borntosend against all claims of whatsoever nature and howsoever arising made against Borntosend for loss of and/or damage to the cargo.
All insurance claims must be submitted to Borntosend in writing, and substantiated with a supplier’s invoice and all other supporting documentation as required, including the endorsed waybill in the event of damaged or pilfered goods.
Borntosend will under no circumstances accept any liability arising from consequential loss.
